Metric Birthday

I first heard of the concept of a metric birthday from Craig Mercer, a flat-mate of mine in New Zealand. The concept is that we should move to the metric system for birthday calculation, with the new unit of measurement being the kiloDay:

kiloDay = 1,000 days. (abbreviated as kDay)

Please enter your birthday to calculate your metric age.

Please enter your birthday:

Thanks for this calculator. Years ago I had calculated the metric birthday of my wife and 3 kids just for grins and had forgot about the concept until a few days ago. Knowing that my youngest must be approaching his 1000k day I sought out a site that would make the re-calculation easier than what I did last time. (You did factor in all the leap day variations I’m sure, right?)

Make that my youngest’s 1000 day OR 1k day. I’m not that old!

Hi Mark, glad you enjoyed the metric birthday calculation. Yes, the calculator does factor in all leap year day variations since it uses the javascript date function that runs in your browser.

I celebrated metric birthdays throughout my partying years, and there was a site I used back then to calculate it, can’t remember it though ( too many birthdays since). Intruiged at your interest in shares, I would be delighted for the opprtunity to discuss “options”

Hi Kelvin, I was thinking the same random thought about my daughters ‘metric age’ as I was feeding her a bottle tonight. I then created a quick spreadsheet to calculate her metric birthdays – she is 1,000 days old in 181 days time! I thought what a cool idea – alongside years, days are the only real constant – as months, hours, minutes and seconds are what we have created to ‘measure’ time. I then checked to see if anyone had created a site for this – and voila I stumbled on yours. Very cool – but now thinking about what to do with it! Ian
